The Long-Overdue J-Ville Part 2 Post

Yeah...sorry, LIFE happened, and it took me a lot longer to post my continuation story. Found a couple minutes to do it, since my room is off limits to the guy who is tearing apart the wall to repair the termite damage in there. That's part of the conditions of me buying this house...that it will be fixed and remedied. Turns out, since last writing, our owner/landlord has since had the house fall into the hands of the bank...and we are now buying it from the bank in a short sell...which means I am getting a MUCH better deal on the house than any other buyer ever would have. So, in short, it all worked out as well as it could have. Pretty stoked to get that all wrapped up. Hopefully by the end of the month. [update, after posting this, about 3 hours later, I get a text from the lady asking if I've sent the rent payment for April. Interesting. If you are buying a house, THAT month..am I wrong in assuming that you wouldn't PAY rent? Also...considering its a short sell, and the sell is between me and the bank, isn't she basically, completely out of the picture? The way I see, and I could be wrong...is were I to send her rent (or the leasing company who manages it for her) would I not just be giving her free money? Since its known that she is no longer making mortgage payments? Kind of an awkward situation. If you know the answer to this...feel free to share with me]

So I will get right into it. Jacksonville? Another venue with lots of potential...but being run by people who are strictly minor-league and don't even know they are minor-league. All I needed to see was dealers who didn't know anything about racing off green chips, or floor guys who didn't know how to handle the swap out after the race off. Those of us who do 'get it' find it painstakingly awkward to watch stuff like that. Dealers pushing out with 30 seconds til the break for the next dealer. Side pots turning into agonizing shit shows. You ever play one of those tournaments at a charity event? And they bring in dealers who's lone experience with cards is playing spades out at the lake house? I tend to be a little overly critical ANYWAY...always have been, with anything I have a lot of experience in. Dining is probably the other thing I have a hard time doing, especially down here in Mississippi where enjoying a good dining experience is rare. So when I am put on life tilt in those situations, it obviously has an affect on my desire to ever go back. I don't see myself going back to Jacksonville. You can add it to the list of places, like Coushatta, for example.

One problem you get when you have a tournament at a venue that is being sponsored by another entity...but being run by the home casino's staff...is a lot of passing of the buck. Anytime you have a question about anything, prize structure, blind structure, certain rules, info about breaks, etc...and you ask one of the in-house floor people, they often times don't know..and defer to the people from, in this example...the MSPT guys. So to get a simple question answered, you are running all over the place looking for the proper person to ask.

My level of success at Best Bet was negligible. I rode down with Kenneth Christoper, and staked him in Flight A. I might have backed him for a second bullet, after he busted...but I think he was so disillusioned with the players, coupled with him having a girl that came up from West Palm he decided he preferred to frolic with...that he decided not to even pursue a second bullet. I made the same deal with Mike Bratovich...who had sold his own package for the event, but who had told me if he busted Flight A, he would let me buy him in for a second bullet. He busted in A and all he wanted to do was get the hell out of there...so he fled, instead of sticking around for Flight B. (smart man)

Me? Well...Ken and I arrived in time to play the 7:30 mega satellite. I put us both in. Ken busted. I won. So yeah, that saved me $850. At one point in Flight A, Ken ran his $20k up to $85k and was looking good. Then, after dinner he ran his KK into AA and went broke. Well, I had that same experience, but it was early in the day. in fact, level 1! Hand #3. And I get KK. I raised. Guy re-raised. I raised again. As did he. I just flatted....starting to fear AA. Flop came all rags. You know the rest of the story. Then I learned...since it certainly wasn't advertised very well...that it was an open re-entry up til Level 6. Well shit....it's level 1...I'm not going anywhere. REBUY!

Photographic proof of my appearance in Jacksonville!

Second bullet went much better. By better, I mean I didn't get knocked out until the 600-1200 level. It's been a month now, I don't even remember how I ultimately lost. Nor can I even tell you how I lost the next day when I had almost a carbon copy of day one...busting early...then rebuying, and busting late again. So yeah...I was in for a total of 4 bullets, plus Ken's. Not a very good trip. Luckily, I had much better luck in the cash game. I was amazed at how bad the play was down there. I think if you live in Jacksonville, and are even just mediocre at the game...you can make a living playing cash game down there. There is no need to really 'play poker' there either. In fact..it probably works against you. Just sitting there and playing A-B-C poker...you will emerge profitable. No one folds. So bluffing is kind of stupid. Just making a hand and not scaring them out of the pot with bets that are TOO big....that is really all the skill you need to make money there. Pot control.

Well, although I was ready to leave after busting Saturday night (and my wife was extremely anxious for me to GTFO)...my road trip partner was still out on his date. So I had no way (a) back to the hotel and obviously (b) no way to leave town yet. So I sat playing 1/2 Pot Limit Omaha H/L which is ABSOLUTELY my game! Bought in for $500. Within an hour was up to $1400. Then John Holley sat at my table..and started doing what John Holley does. Nuked the table basically. Totally killed//changed up the whole dynamic that I'd spent the first 90 minutes setting up. Keep pots small to start in case I need to see a turn card, I can afford it...then inflating it on the turn to make it too expensive for people to chase on the river. Well...John likes to pot everything pre-flop. So you are spending a fair amount just to see the flop...which, if incomplete, leaves you with a decision to call a huge bet to see the next card. Killed all my momentum. So while I lost about 500 on my stack...he busted twice and rebought, the second time very deep. I never understand some things, the way some guys play. But whatever..it is what it is. And John has had a lot of success, so don't take what I'm saying about him as criticism. He just has his own style, and I have mine. And the two don't mix especially well.

That's when something happened that would lead to my departure from BestBet. And which I've been pretty mum on. Intentionally. I'm going to be very vague/ambiguous here...because there is pending litigation. A guy walks by our table. John says hi to him...by name. I see his back as he walks by. And I realize....it's HIM! Who? I can't say right now. Way back...in about 2008...a story circulated out in Vegas that a dealer and his wife had been robbed. That their condo was broken into, money and laptop and other stuff, all stolen. I felt really bad for them. (there were rumors later, told to me by several people, that their burglary never really happened. Maybe, maybe not)

Well, having a large email distribution list...I decided to try and help them out. So I sent out a note to my people, explaining the situation. A handful of people pledged support to help them. Some sent me PayPal money. And some said they would send a check. I was only too happy to give this guy what I'd been sent, and told him others had pledged something, but I was going to have to wait to get it before I could give it to him. One guy even pledged an old laptop. But I couldn't give him what I didn't have yet. So, I gave him what I DID have already...which I think was $500? Honestly, I can't remember..it was 8 years ago.

This particular summer (like so many others!) I wasn't permitted to play at WSOP events. So I was playing at Venetian. He was a WSOP dealer. He would make frequent trips to Venetian to ask me if I had gotten any more money. I don't remember the details on if I had or not, or how much. All I remember is that he pretty much started becoming a nuisance about it. By the end of the summer, he would ask me to front him some money because his car wasn't running right, and he needed to get it fixed to assure that they got home okay. Again...I don't remember how much it was ($450 sounds right) he needed, but I gave him money for it, not really expecting to get it back. I didn't. Whatever. No big deal. I had a good summer that year at Venetian.

Well...fast forward about 3 or 4 years...someone told me, "Hey! Remember that guy you helped out in Vegas a few years ago?" Then named him. Yeah, why, I asked? "Well, dude...I have to send you this link...he is on Facebook just bashing the hell out of you!"  What!??? So I found the thread and was honestly....devastated. He was just blasting me. And I had no idea why. And when I questioned him there...he didn't relent. Just kept pouring it on, calling me all kinds of shit. What had I done to deserve that??? Had he simply lost his mind? I couldn't figure it out. But I did tell him he better hope he never ran into me...especially outside the (relative) safety of a casino...because I would make him pay for this betrayal (in my eyes) against me. Well...I didn't see him again any time soon. I'd heard that no one would hire him to deal anywhere...and that he'd gotten out of poker entirely. Not surprising.

Well...he showed up at BestBet...and I was kind of incredulous. I honestly didn't know how to act...but since I was sober, and basically having a pretty good night, I wasn't in any kind of a hostile mood. Yet...just seeing him kind of got my blood boiling. I shared the story with the guys at my end of the table. Two of the guys kept turning around and looking at him two tables away...where he was playing 1-3 no limit with his new girlfriend seated behind him. He kept looking over in my direction...usually with some pompous smirk on his face. I finally told him to do himself a favor and quit antagonizing me. Which prompted him to holler that "that's a pretty good way to get yourself thrown out Will." What a dick. Yeah...I'm sure that was what he was rooting for...since he knew me being in the same 'airspace' as him wasn't too good for his well-being. So that's about the time I see him worm his way over to the late night shift manager/floor guy. I can tell by his body language that he is spinning some bullshit tale. Then about 10 minutes later...the floor guy approaches me at our table.

"What is the deal with you and that guy?" I tell him as briefly as I could about my history with him. Tell him I have made no threats against him, that I haven't even left my seat. And that I would never start a fight in a poker room. He seems satisfied with that...and tells me he doesn't want anything to escalate. Sure. No problem. You got it. He goes away.

Well..idiot didn't want to leave it alone. He continues to pester me. I just sat giving him my death glare. And the two guys at our table didn't help...as they kept turning around looking at him...which probably gave the look and feel that something was brewing. Because a few minutes later...the floor guy returned and told me I had to leave. Why? He claimed that a dealer had said he observed me talking about wanting to kill the guy. Really? So I'm sitting here at my table, as told to do...and because he is over there making stupid ass faces like a 12-year old...and I say I would like to kill the guy (figure of speech) that you.....oh fuck it! Whatever...if you aren't smart enough to figure out who the adult in the room is, who the functioning, contributing member of society is...and who the loser, douchebag is...well, like I said...fuck it! It's 2:30am, I'm up $1800....have no plans to return to this place anyway....good time to leave.

So I get my chips in a rack. On the way to the cage...I'm being escorted by two in-house security guys. You know the type. Ugly velour purple blazer, older...the kinds who could never really contribute anything should anything significant actually go down? They are following me to the cage....and one of them asks me for my ID. "Why?" Well, he wants it so he can 'document' what happened. "Document? Well..no, I'm NOT going to give you my ID. Unless I'm being trespassed, or unless I'm being charged with something...there is no reason for you to see my ID...so no." Well that apparently ruffled his feathers because he taps his little shoulder mic...and I hear him state "suspect doesn't want to give us his ID, maybe you want to call for backup."  Huh??? Backup? Suspect!!??? WTF?

Well sure enough...as I tend to do, I attracted the shit storm. Now...in fairness, I didn't exactly do my self any favors, or what I might have been advised to do should, say for example, my wife been with me. Instead of just walking out quietly...and finding a cab to take me back to my hotel, I chose a different departure route. Mainly because I didn't want this asshole to feel like he'd 'won' the battle and gotten over on me. As I was walking through the poker room, I cleared my throat and addressed the room, "Attention...fellow poker players! I would like to thank you for my time here at Best Bet! I am being forced to leave because that little schmuck standing over there (pointing to him) is afraid of me and thinks I'm going to hurt him I think. See, years ago, I helped him out of a couple jams...to which he repaid me by talking shit about me on a social thread for no reason. Whatever you do...don't EVER loan that guy money! Or buy into his BS scams, or fall for any of his woe-is-me stories. He's a loser!" This as I was making my way to the door. Well...towards the end of my 'speech' a short sheriff's deputy who I'd later learn is assigned to that post full time comes up to me, gets in my face, chest-bumps me and asks if I have a problem with leaving as I'd been asked to?

No...I tell him, I don't have a problem with it...do you NOT see me walking towards the door? He bumps me again..."then why aren't you leaving!???" I tell him I AM leaving...that I just wanted to deliver a speech to prevent this punk from ripping anyone else off. I then asked the guy why he was getting physical with me? He tells me he's not, as he shoves me again. That's when I thought I better get out my phone and start rolling video on this over-zealous cop. As soon as I hit the record button, he smacks the phone out of my hand...sending it about 20 feet away.

"Oh...that's nice!" I go to pick up my phone...and as I do so...am tackled by FOUR cops. No idea where the other three came from...but BOOM...they were all there. Must have been the 'backup' that had been called by the floor toughies. I am now laying on my front side...and am being ambushed by all four cops. One guy has a hold of my foot and is turning it violently...like he was trying to break my ankle. It hurt a lot. I have no idea what the fuck he was doing. While that's happening I'm being handcuffed. I turn to my right to see three guys with camera phones all videoing...so I was confident that by laying there not resisting whatsoever I could use that later to my benefit. So I just laid there wriggling around, hoping that guy would stop twisting my foot and ankle. Meanwhile I got another guy standing on my back, another on my shoulder...while kicking me in the ribs. About that time another guy is pressing down on my shoulder and strikes me in the left side of my face.

[side note: by some crazy coincidence, if any of the guys who were shooting that video happen to read this, and didn't, as I suspect, get management from Best Bet to order you to delete the video from your phone under some kind of threat? I am willing to pay you $250 for a copy of the video. Just email me, at ThePokerMonkey1@aol.com]

I'm now starting to kind of lose my shit...but trying to stay calm because I know its all being videotaped not only by camera-phone guys...but Best Bet in-house security. And I don't know what the gaming laws are in Florida...but I know some casinos are required to save tape for up to 30 days. So I'm trying hard to stay calm, knowing I am going to have a great case against these idiots later. I spent an HOUR in the cop car...handcuffed, with no air, and no leg room. I was in tremendous pain from my back...recurring pain that had been persisting for weeks, and which I had a back procedure scheduled for when I got home from Jacksonville, on March 8th. That would later be cancelled when I showed up for it...when they told me they couldn't do the procedure because I had complained about an ear infection that had showed up that night. It turns out...it wasn't an ear infection. After a trip to an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist, I have a ruptured ear drum..as a result of the cops punching me in the side of the head. It's been almost 6 weeks, and it still hasn't healed. I have no hearing in one of my ears..its very frustrating and annoying. (It's been driving Squirrel crazy, me not ever hearing anything she is saying) It's expected to heal...just no idea how long it will be.

After about an hour in the cop car...that same short little cop who started it all...walks over to my window, and says "Mr Souther...you seem like a pretty good guy, why didn't you just stay calm and leave like you were asked to, instead of getting all crazy?" To which I laughed...and said "That's really funny. Is that honestly your take? The spin you are going to put on this? You are amusing. So what? After you ran my info, and finding that I have no warrants, or record, or anything else...and seeing pictures in my bag of my wife and kid...that NOW I seem like an okay guy? Look..I'm sure you hear this from just about every guy you guys do this to, that you just made a huge mistake, they are going to have your badge, blah blah blah, right? Well...let me just tell you this; I'm the real thing. I have plenty of money, and plenty of time, and the truth on my side. As soon as I get out of your county jail? The first call I will be making is to find the best lawyer in this city who handles police brutality cases, and pursuing a case against you. If you want to make a really smart move right now, the best thing you could do is take these cuffs off of me, apologize for kicking the crap out of me, in front of my peers, then drive me to my hotel, and beg me not to press charges against you. And because I do tend to be a pretty reasonable guy, I will likely let it go."

I really, for a second, thought he was possibly considering that move. But I assume that since they had already called it in, they had to process me at that point. So I was charged with 'Resisting Without Violence to Officers or Self' which is one of the most chippy offenses they have but, according to one of the guys I spoke to at the jail, who was helping me get my bond taken care of....the most widely applied charges they see there. Gee, imagine that.

Later...after I located the lawyer I was referred to, who was labeled, 'The best lawyer in Jacksonville that deals with these kind of cases' we were talking on the phone, and when discussing the case, he told me they had a MAJOR problem with this kind of shit in Jacksonville. While telling him my story, he would literally finish about half of my sentences...like he was there! He's obviously represented numerous people who have basically experienced the same thing I did.

So I quickly posted cash bond. Was told that would get me out the fastest...in 30-60 minutes. Huge lie. I sat in there for 8 hours. While going through the process of getting 'dressed out' and accounting for all of my belongings at the Inventory counter, I learned that my pills, all of which come with a prescription...were basically stolen. No evidence that they ever existed in my bag. Just gone! Of course, I'd just gotten my pain pills renewed/refilled...so by law, my doctor couldn't rewrite that scrip for 30 days! So, needless to say, the past month has been a real joy! I think I spent about 4 hours in what they call a 'pod' or a dorm, where all the criminals (allegedly!) share a common space. I rolled up in a ball, threw the thin scratchy blanket over myself that was about 5 feet 3 inches in length, a foot shorter shorter than I am...requiring me to roll up in a ball to cover all of myself in what was a freezing cold room. I tried to sleep to kill the time, the waiting period before they would finally get credit from the state for having had me incarcerated for what would amount to a full day, and let them get paid for my being there as a guest. Because that IS what it's all about when you get thrown in a county jail. They need to get paid. So you need to stay a certain number of hours. Luckily I am smart enough to know this...so I wasn't ever freaking out or panicking wondering why it was taking so long to get out. Fucking bullshit legal system.

Well, I finally got released. And yeah...I do have pictures of the bruising all over my body, and the cut they put over my left eye. I can't post them here. Not now. Not yet. My lawyer has already secured a warrant from the judge to subpoena the video from the poker room, and the hearing for my Resisting charges has been addressed...so I felt it was okay to share the basics of what happened in Jacksonville now. What happens in terms of a civil suit against, whoever...will be determined once the tapes are hopefully obtained. As for my annual donation that goes to the Sheriff's Association in Florida? Well...after ten years, I think they may have seen their last donation from this guy. As for my choice to take sides with law enforcement in all these Black Lives Matter situations over the past year or two? This certainly changes my perspective a little bit. I mean...I'm white, not a criminal..and I get that treatment? I can't even imagine being a minority, maybe 'looking' like a criminal, but being totally innocent...and manhandled by cops who lack the ability to effectively problem-solve in a situation that calls for good judgement and/or discretion.  Yes...I do STILL think the BLM people are a bunch of fucking idiots...with an agenda that is simply perpetuating racism in our country, and encouraging violence against law enforcement...but I also think there are STILL way too many cops that aren't doing things right. And when you act like that...I don't know how you can expect to be treated with the respect that you DEMAND of people. It's impossible.

So...yeah, there ya go. That was my Jacksonville experience! Thanks for the memories J'Ville! I will say this: The people working in the jail? For the most part? Pretty nice folks. Fairly respectful of me the whole time I was there. And observing some of the stupid shit they had to deal with, and HOW they dealt with it? I have to admit, I was rather impressed. It's too bad the local law enforcement officers couldn't act the same way. Maybe some of them need to sit behind bars for a few days to learn a few things about treating people with the respect they deserve.

Well, as I've been writing this...my latest shipment of Sewansecott Oysters just showed up on my doorstep, courtesy of UPS. Sent yesterday from Virginia, $150 for 100 of the most incredible oysters you will ever taste! Recommended to me...actually SENT to me (the first batch) by Charlie Townsend, a poker player a lot of you know...I have grown addicted to these delicious mollusks! Kai Landry has already reserved a spot on my back porch and will be coming with a wonderful white wine to pair with the oysters!

MINIONS UPDATE:  Summer is quickly approaching....and the applications have been flying in. I have already decided on one...mmmm...two I guess...and almost three....Poker Players who will be playing in this year's WSOP Main Event under my banner. I'm not prepared to unveil their names as of yet. Okay...well, one. Wild Bill Phillips will be representing us for a third consecutive year. Last year...he won another shot for being the deepest finisher in year #1. And well, this year, he will return as our first (and ONLY) Minion/Monkey Grinder to ever cash for us (investors and fans). He also runs (with Gene Dudek-also a current candidate) the website that I blog on...so there is a bit of a marketing angle tied to this decision, obviously. I also happen to be a really big fan of Bill, for a variety of reasons...so its a very easy decision for me to name him as a team member. Oh, and on an unrelated note...and this is kind of funny; we tend to do pool swaps on our pools. My March Madness Pool got 739 entries last year...this year....769. His pool got around 70 this year. I took third place in his....I won about $160. He won 3rd place in mine! He won about $1600! Oh and...if North Carolina had won? He would have WON my pool...for the second year in a row! In 20 years of running my March Madness Pool...nobody has ever won it twice. So to play last year...and WIN...and follow that up with another WIN???? Would have been just sick! But still....winning $7000+ last year...then $1600+ this year? Nice!

If you are interested in playing for TEAM MONKEY in this year's $10,000 WSOP MAIN EVENT..its not too late to apply. Send your application to me at ThePokerMonkey1@aol.com. Oh...just texting me or sending me a message on Facebook, telling me you want to be selected? That's kind of weak. Sure, you might be a great player who is more than a good investment...but what I'm looking for? Are people who REALLY REALLY REALLY demonstrate a desire to be on this team. I would like to feel like I am really helping someone who REALLY wants to play this tourney. It makes me feel good to know I've chosen someone who truly appreciates it. Not someone who, if I don't pick them...will simply go raise the money from other people. Yeah, big deal, right? On the other hand...please don't ask me to consider you if you really don't have any kind of a resume to support me selecting you. Keep in mind...I have investors...last year upwards of 80 of them...who I have to 'sell' you to. I don't need 80 people laughing in my face, or worse, demanding their money back. These people trust me, and expect me to put a good product at the table for them to root for. So yeah...there's all that!  I fully intend to have the FULL TEAM in place, named, and merchandise starting to be made for all of them....by Memorial Day.

Bovada finally got me! After weeks of crushing that stupid Zone Poker game...it finally reared its ugly head and bit me....check that...chewed me up in small pieces...piece by piece...and swallowed all of me and my bankroll. One unbelievably ridiculous beat after another. The kind that just leave you shaking your head in disbelief. They have a tournament series going on there right now...that yeah, I would kind of like to be playing. But I just have ZERO faith in online poker at all. Nothing ever seems to hold. No matter how you play ANY hand...slow play it, fast play it, limp a lot, raise a lot, three-bet four-bet like crazy...just flatting and playing post flop?? None of it works. I've tried every way. I get deep SO many times in tourney online...only to take that one-two-three punch where you go from a top ten stack to a min cash...BOOM! And you're like...why? Why did I just waste 8 hours for THAT? It's really all just kind of a joke. So I probably won't play any of these big events. Why bother? I can go down to the Scarlett Pearl, buy in for $500 and almost certainly cash out with $1500 consistently, and I'm going to have a lot better ROI than anything I do online.

As for live tournaments? Will I go play anywhere? Will I go to Vegas this summer? I don't know. I have no answers to any of that. Truth is, I like being at home right now a lot. Carley is at this fun age...talking, playing, we do stuff together a lot. She is just so funny, and cute and sweet. Hell...she's my best friend. And me and Squirrel are her best friend. She misses me so much it hurts whenever me or Cheryl are gone. Cheryl went to Birmingham this past weekend for a friend's birthday weekend...and Carley was miserable missing her mommy. So...knowing I have that at home...it makes it really hard to ever want to go anywhere for very long. Maybe if I can get Cheryl to get 5-7 days off this summer...I will bring her and Carley out to Vegas the week that the Minions all get ready to play...like I did last year. We can stay at a fun, kid-friendly hotel...I can play a few tourneys, and we can get the Minions all set up, and hopefully have a great pre-tourney dinner together again like last summer. Maybe go to Frank and Piper Kasella's 4th of July party too! We'll see. Still a few months to go before all that!

I'm just glad I was finally able to sit down and write the follow up to that post!!!! I was feeling really guilty for not getting that done. Next on my list...write a very LONGGGG overdue letter (after she has written me FOUR times) to the little (just-turned this week) 7 year old Filipino girl who I sponsor on the other side of the world. She is such a little cutie...and it makes me so happy knowing how much $35 a month helps her and her family! I have been meaning to write her now for weeks! Procrastinating sucks! If you are interested in sponsoring a child in need...it really is a great company....the site I go through is www.childfund.org. Check them out. I promise you...nothing you donate to (and my list of monthly donors is now up to 7!) will give you a greater feeling than this one!

UNTIL NEXT TIME!

The Journey to Jacksonville, PART 1

It's Sunday. I'm sitting here, chilling with Carley, watching the last of the conference basketball tourneys, before tonight's announcement of the field of 68 and another March Madness, featuring another pool (up to about 20 now) that I will most likely NOT win for the 20th year or so in a row. And in this year's wide open field, whoever DOES win will certainly have earned it. If you want to join my madness (733 entries last year, won by none other than Wild Bill Phillips) shoot me an email to ThePoolMonkey@aol.com.

Since I dropped the initial word touting the 2016 edition of Monkey's Minions...I've already received numerous applications from worthy candidates. The hunt is on! Just a few tips to those who are anxious for a spot on the team this summer. Having other people endorse you, in addition to YOU actually applying yourself, is a plus. Also a plus, convincing me that you and your support unit will work hard to garner support through the purchase of shares. In the first two years, I've had some who did a good job of this, and some who didn't. It's a team, so there really should be some team-like efforts put forth. As for when I will name the team, or the number of players ON the team? Hmmm..not sure yet. Probably shoot for a target date of Memorial Day. Those wanting to buy a share, which will again cost $200 per share...get in touch with me. The number of players we send is solely contingent upon the number of shares I sell. Personally, I will likely come in for 15 or 20 shares again this summer.

Do you buy flowers from a florist? Why? For about a fourth of the cost, you can buy flowers at Wal-Mart that, I'm not kidding, consistently last 3-4 weeks, or roughly twice as long as those you buy from a florist. I find more and more people are discovering this little secret. For those who weren't aware, and are on a budget, you're welcome!

Well, it happened. It finally happened. Two years ago, a panicked phone call to my wife resulted in my wife, and three of her friends driving to Baton Rouge (aka Enemy Territory) and 'rescuing' Claudia 'The Claw' Crawford from her horrible boyfriend (who she actually revisited a couple times in the past couple years for whatever primal need she needed to satisfy)...bringing her back to Biloxi, and providing her with shelter at the Souther Estate.  The intent was to help her while she got back on her feet. You know, a couple, maybe a few months? 7 months later, we moved houses. The Claw came with us. Time dragged on. The Claw stayed. Carley grew fond of her...which was, to be fair, her saving grace! Never all that big of a burden or annoyance, or financial drain...it became more of a running joke, something to speculate on or about. "Hmmm...when will Claudia EVER move out? Or will she?" She kind of became known as our 30-year old teenager.

That all ended two weeks ago. Suddenly, and without any warning. She announced around the first of February that she would be taking a couple weeks to function as a shill in a house game in Birmingham that a friend of ours runs. If she liked it, she might decide to move up there and do it full time. Okay. Good luck...and have fun.

It appears the shill thing didn't work out. But what did happen, was that she met a guy. a guy named Jonathan. Allegedly it was love at first site. And...a couple weeks later, and a trip to city hall...and I walked out to the garage after hearing Squirrel's car enter, home from work. She was on her phone. I sat patiently waiting. Carley loves to race out there and greet mommy when she returns home. She said goodbye, looks at me, and says "Well, Claw got married." Huh!???? What!!!???? And she filled in the very brief details. Then, about 15 minutes later, after Claw decided to announce it to the World of Facebook...my phone started blowing up. I had no answers for anyone, since I didn't know squat myself.  But it is what it is. Remember the show 'Green Acres?' Where the character played by Eva Gabor (I think...one of those Gabor sisters) moved from the big city out to the country to live with some farmer guy? Same basic premise. Only this guy is a brick mason. Living in Alabaster, Alabama. Oh, and he's an Auburn fan. The previous guy was an LSU fan. And just in case you weren't FULLY committed to starting the impeachment process like I already have to vote Claudia out of the Alabama fraternity...she had the audacity to root for Cam Newton in the Super Bowl, even going so far as to post #RollCamNewton which caused me all kinds of pre-game nausea.

So...long story short, I now have the ample amount of closet space I was seeking for a very long time. Claw moved out while I was on the Journey to Jacksonville that I will be talking about pretty soon. I'm told Carley was sad...but Carley also had two of her girlfriends over for playtime, so it most likely didn't have the impact that it usually would have had on her. On Friday, Squirrel and I, after being on the wait list for two years...went and visited the Cedar Lake Christian Academy after we finally got our name called! So it looks like this fall Carley will be going to private pre-k school. Good news is that it's not much further from our house than her current school. I was really impressed with the school and the whole set up. Seems like it will make for a nice transition when she moves to 1st grade. I can't believe I'm even saying that already! Where did these first four years go? She is at this age where I fall deeper and deeper in love with her every day. She is so sweet, and so funny. She loves animals, already announcing that when she 'gets big' she wants to be a dokker for doggies...which just made Squirrel and I gush with pride. My black lab Jasper is 11 now, and our other mutt, a lab/pit mix is 8...an really aged a lot this year. I worry a lot about how Carley is going to deal with the loss of one or both of them. I have to think its going to devastate her. As it will Cheryl and I. I'm definitely not looking forward to that horrible, inevitable occasion.

As for our house? Wow.  What an adventure THAT has turned into! I did my part to make myself qualified to get a mortgage. Took two years of screwing myself on tax returns...where I would have been getting $3500 back two times, instead I paid $4000 to Obama's folks so a piece of paper would deem me eligible to buy a house. So we are qualified now to buy a pretty nice place. We like the house we are living in and have been renting for the past 15 months. Only problem? The lady who owns it is experiencing some financial hardships, and is trying to sell it for a lot more than it is worth. On top of that, I paid $350 to have a home inspection done, and a lot of things were unveiled that make it even MORE of a bad investment at even the appraised price! Now I've got the lady giving me 24-hour ultimatums to accept her offer or she is going to list it.

This is humorous because we previously agreed to buy it without an agent, so that she would be able to save that money. Which really was a bad idea...mainly because we have so many realtor friends in the area. Cheryl confided in one that she knows really well yesterday, and was given 'advice as your friend' not to buy this house, because the homes in this neighborhood have been consistently going down in value for a variety of reasons. It sucks because I hate moving, so do NOT want to move. We are in a really convenient location too. But at the same time...buying a house at a price we will never be able to resell it at is also incredibly stupid. Unless I just want to buy it, live in it for awhile, then rent it out for an eternity like I've done with my house in Pensacola. I don't know. Ugh...home buying...so frustrating! But I just want a place that is big enough to grow with Carley! And having my own private man cave would be cool too!

Are you excited about the presidential races? Good gawd. Don't even get me going. My fellow blogger and friend Nolan Dalla has been doing quite a lot of writing on the subject this year, inspiring some very spirited threads on Facebook. I've just come to the conclusion that when liberals and conservatives are trying to win an argument with each other, there is only one consistent outcome: total chaos. I've never seen it so bad as it is this year. But I think we can blame that on social media. Our whole society has been transformed by it. People just aren't afraid to say whatever is on their mind, to whoever they please. There is no retribution, nothing to fear. Keyboard warriors are everywhere. Trumps a Nazi! Hillary is a Traitor, and a Murderer! Bernie is a Communist! Ted is a slimy slippery snake! (totally true) It's just been a political shitstorm all year. And the winner in all this? Obama! He's gone from the daily scrutiny for 7 years to being almost completely ignored. People have finally turned the page on Barack...going from "he's destroying our country! He's trying to be a dicator!" to..."Oh...him? Yeah, well...he's almost done...so it's time to start figuring out who we are going to spend the next 3-7 years hating!!!" Politics...its a non-winner no matter how you slice it. Who am I endorsing? I can't, in good conscience, actually ENDORSE anyone. It's kind of the lesser of all evils when it comes to electing any of these people. There are two who I can say I wouldn't vote for even if I was being tortured, and that's Hillary Clinton and/or Ted Cruz. Clinton for actual reasons that make sense to everyone. She's a scandal-ridden, lying, scheming, professional politician by trade who's cackle laugh make me want to set fire to her. As for Cruz, he's basically the epitome of every guy I ever wanted to punch in the face. A son of a preacher, everything that falls out of his face feels like its being delivered from a guy who wants me to send him $500 so he can finally buy that G4 that Jesus wants him to fly around in delivering his message. That no-teeth smile of his, that pointy nose, those squinty weasel eyes, that terrible hair that can't figure out which way it wants to part, that nasally whiny voice of his. His patronizing way of addressing every audience, like none of them are capable of individual intelligent thought (which, in fairness, if you are a Cruz supporter, and there listening to him speak, you might actually NOT be capable of individual intelligent thought). Yeah...put Ted Cruz in front of me, in a place where I am basically allowed a free shot with no legal ramifications, and I'd rear back and deliver a very satisfying blast to his cringe-worthy grill.

But I still don't have a clue who the hell I'm voting for. Probably Trump though...even though I think he's a buffoon, brags too much, exaggerates too much, and thinks he will be a lot more than the Constitution will allow him to, I DO LIKE the fact that he has put on hold his very easy, carefree life that a billionaire mostly enjoys...to live the life of a guy with constant scrutiny and criticism surrounding him, constant security up his ass 24-hours a day. A guy like that will have to change his whole life as he's known it for what? To serve his nation? A guy who isn't owned by banks and all the other power-brokering assholes that control the puppet strings of our presidency. I dig that. Its a hell of a sacrifice for a guy to give up all that because he genuinely cares about our country and the direction that its going in. I like that. For those afraid he wants to be a dictator or turn us into 1935 Germany? Get a fucking grip. The guy is NOT an idiot, nor does he want to go Adolf Hitler on us. Let him get in the White House...and see who he surrounds himself. That's what I'm curious to see.  I voted for Barack back in 2008 because I really thought he had a plan to change things. But it was a joke, a farce really. Nothing got better, despite what the libtards and their false memes you see all over Facebook will try to convince you of. Racial tensions are at an all time low because of his divisiveness. Situations he could have EASILY, with ANY amount of effort defused, he simply inflamed with his actions. Some of them simply unforgivable to me. So my argument? Lets try a guy like Trump. No one owns him. No one will bully him. No foreign countries are going to treat us like they've treated us the past 7 years. Promise! And as for countries respecting us LESS because we might elect Trump? Are you kidding me? Less than they respect us NOW? The only difference is, they don't respect us NOW because we have become a paper tiger. At least if they don't like us with Trump as president it won't because they don't at least FEAR us! And that is okay with me!

So yeah, I'm voting for Trump. Him, his bad hair, his goofy-looking pouty lips, his childish facial expressions during debates, his incessant desire to talk about the polls he's leading in. Yeah yeah...I get it. He's a blowhard, he's annoying as fuck. And his speeches are super repetitive. I get all that. You won't get me to disagree with you there. But where Barack Obama was a turd wrapped in a beautiful, shiny wrapper...I prefer to think that Trump might just be a precious gem...wrapped in a shitty looking cover. So I'm gonna go with the whole 'Don't Judge the Book by it's Cover' thing on this one. And hey...if he IS a total disaster? We'll either not vote him back in, or even force him to resign or impeach him...like we SHOULD have done with Obama...but oh! Everyone was afraid to because he is black, and no one wanted to risk starting a race war, or god forbid, risk their political careers!!! And then we elected him again! Well...not really! Mitt Romney just fucked himself with his little speech he didn't know was being recorded...you know the one?!! Where he clowned on 'those people' no one cares about, the ones who don't matter! Yeah...except when you need their votes. Well played Mitt! You donkey! Thanks for giving us 4 more years of Barack!

Okay well...it's now 1:20 on Sunday. Squirrel is at work, and one of Carley's playmates' mother is going to be here in 20 minutes so we can all go to an Easter egg hunt! So I will go shower and get the kid ready and finish this later...where I know you are dying to hear about Jacksonville and my adventure at Best Best. I guess I will just post this now and come back with a PART 2!

BYE FEBRUARY, THAT WAS QUICK!

Why does February always seem to fly by so quickly? Yeah yeah, I know, its the shortest month of the year. But come on, seriously...two days? Big deal. I've slept for two days before! Oh look! A TV commercial for yogurt starring Cam Newton! That guy who got creamed in the Super Bowl, then pouted his way through the post-game press conference, which endeared him to millions! Hey...if you're gonna run all over the field like a circus clown, taking selfies during the game and celebrating every first down like you just discovered gold....then you need to learn how to handle a loss! Watching that petulant child lose to the Broncos was one of my happiest Super Bowl memories, ever! What a douchebag.

So, the week before the Super Bowl...I took the family to Disney World. Sadly...the day we got there...Carley came down with a fever, and strep throat. But somehow...she soldiered through, with Squirrel giving her all the proper meds at every proper hourly interval. You could see the misery in Carley's eyes...but the meeting with every Disney character temporarily lifted her spirits. Meanwhile...I was destroying my knees and back, eating pain pills like they were Pez. When we finally reached our room each night....I was so happy for the chance to sleep a few hours. To just LAY DOWN! It was brutal. We must have walked 100 miles in 4 days. Never, ever again do I do Disney and NOT rent a scooter. They rent them on site! For good reason! And if I'm worried about people judging me and giving me snotty looks? I'll slap on a rudimentary knee brace of some kind. Three weeks later...my back is worse...not sure why. But the pain medication doctor has gotten involved, upped my meds to something a little more powerful, and scheduled me for an epidural/injection therapy for March 8th. Ugh...can't get here soon enough! Wow...getting old sucks balls!

So...with my declining health, and increasing age...and increasing mid-section, I decided 5 days ago to go on a crash diet. I said a long time ago..."how do people let themselves get SO fat? If I ever get so fat I can't stand looking in the mirror, I will starve myself back to skinny!" Well...that day came last week. I looked in the mirror, and felt sick. Granted...its all in my gut, mainly. Still...6'4 is a big frame, and yeah, its gonna carry some weight. But I'm approaching Offensive Lineman stature...checking on last Monday at 275 lbs! Yeah! So I started right then and there. And five days in I've lost the first 7 lbs. The first goal is 25. Then 40. If I can hit 40...and my damn back stops hurting, I will be in the gym 3 days a week. It's not about me anymore. I have this beautiful, full of life little girl who loves her daddy as much as I love her...and I simply cannot rob her of a life with her daddy by being irresponsible and dying of a heart-attack. So...the battle is on!

Poker-wise, admittedly I haven't played much live tourney play. Played a little $2500 guarantee they run at The Scarlet Pearl last Saturday. $100 buy in with re-entry through three levels. I bit the dust when my flopped flush lost to a bigger flush. I moved to the 1-3 game...where there is NO max on the buy in (love that) and bought in for $500...cashed out for $2100. That was my second cash session there. The first one, about a month ago, I won $2200. Played there again last night....and only managed to win $370. Lately...my cash cow has been Bovada's 'Zone Poker' their version of speed poker. I won $400 taking a bath last night before heading to the Pearl. That was in about 90 minutes. I've been taking about $1000 a week from that game. $100 buy in at .50/1.00 limits. It's absolutely incredible how soft it is. Bluffs are obvious. Big hands almost always get paid off. Pretty simple formula. Min raise. Bet the flop whether you hit or not...take down about 65% of the hands. Hell...I might even be able to say...and I haven't said this in a long time...I'm semi-enjoying playing online! Especially when I can play it on my iPad. It's gets me to sleep at night a lot!

My pools have been so successful this past football season, as well as my fledgling accounting business...that there really is no way to justify the need to go out on the road to play poker. When you are making 'X-amount' of money...and try to convince your wife to go out of town to make 'Y-amount'' of money that is significantly less than 'X-amount' it makes it pretty hard to win the argument against staying home with my little girl. Coupled with the burnout I'd managed to achieve after years of chasing the poker circuit. Throw in the influx of new, young, annoying players that I simply can't relate to or barely tolerate. It's sometimes hard to sit with some of these idiots. And yeah...I know, there are those of you saying things like "that's the coffee calling the kettle black!" and other related comments. Sure...I was once this loud, boisterous, overly-opinionated player who was very polarizing. Honestly, that was back when I was full of enthusiasm for the game. I loved it. I loved interacting with players. Most everything I did and said was all in good fun, though it was often misinterpreted. Well...that is seemingly a non-issue now...as I'm like a house plant at the table. Just sitting there.

Last night, while playing cash game...these two young, drunk 'kids' show up....one sporting dark shades. Cute. There were the alcohol-fueled promises to take all of our money. I said nothing. Partially because I was marinating in pain meds while enjoying my orange-cranberry juice, but also because I simply don't care. I've heard these guys for over a decade. Blah blah blah. He gets real lucky early...and chips up. Then his buddy wins a couple hands. Oh...how the worm turned. Super Shades raises to 15. Older, quiet guy in the 1-seat re-raises to 40. Kid gives a speech and calls. Long story short...he has jacks...and flops a set of jacks....J-3-5. All the money gets in...and while he's celebrating, a Queen hits the river...and the other guy turns over two queens. A few people at the table chuckle. Then it was his friend's turn. On a board of A-4-7-K-Q....he bets about $60 on the river...and starts chirping that he is 'taking it easy on ya pardna!' I'm not sure what prevented the guy (the likable one) on my side of the table from raising him, but he didn't, and after seeing the guys AK...says "I'm gonna take it easy on YOU....pardna!" and turns over QQ. Absolute hilarity. Whole table, even the guy's buddy...is laughing at him. Major burn!

Both of them lose another big hand on the river, and finally busted. I can't lie...it completed my night. At some point, I pulled out my rubber-banded mobile bank roll..and I guess sunglasses spotted the 100's...and shortly afterwards, started mumbling about wishing he could play me heads-up for $500. I responded, in a very slow, robotic voice: "My friend, I would be more than happy to play you heads up for any amount of money you can produce, I'll even get the floor to get us a dealer and spread the game. Just say the word." That seemed to rattle him a little bit. Earlier, he had been goading me...calling me "the guy who doesn't talk to anyone." Yeah. Can y'all believe that? Me? The guy who doesn't talk to anyone? The boring guy!?? Yup! Apparently, that is me, who I've become! I am entering OMRG status I'm afraid. Just think...two weeks ago, I turned 49....FORTY FREAKING NINE! Next year I will be eligible to play the Senior's Events. Scary!

Well...after numerous attempts to get me to leave the fortress...Ken Christopher, and my stake horse Mike Bratovich...have FINALLY convinced me to venture out on the road. Having received the blessing of my wife, and permission from little Carley....I will leave my hamlet this coming Thursday, Kenneth is even driving (gotta like THAT!) and travel to Jacksonville to play the BestBet MSPT Main Event! $1100 buy in, great structure. Play 1A on Friday...and if necessary, 1B on Saturday. Hopefully I survive Day 1...bag chips, and take Saturday to goof off. Which means, probably play cash game all day! But I will admit it, having gotten a little bit of the itch back to play tourneys...I'm a little excited. So, I will let you know how that turns out.

In closing...I know we are getting close to another summer of WSOP action in Vegas...and I for one, am extremely shocked/surprised that it appears the Rio will once again be hosting the worlds largest poker event/convention. I was led by my sources to believe 100% that it would be moving to Planet Hollywood. Well, it didn't' happen...and I think if it hasn't happened yet, it isn't going to. Just not enough time.  So...just around the corner? You know it! It's the HUNT for MONKEY'S MINIONS...for SUMMER 2016! Oh and...this just in...the main event has bumped up the starting stack from 30k to 50k! Crazy awesome structure. Makes me sick that I can't play. But oh well, whatever. I'm not about to beat a dead and decaying dead horse. If you are someone you think I would want to get behind, and to eventually sponsor for this year's $10,000 WSOP Main Event...its time to start sending me your 'applications' for consideration. The email to send to is ThePokerMonkey1@aol.com. Can't wait to see who I have to pick from this year!

The Return of Senor Monkey

Did you miss me? No, not much? Well...I didn't miss you either. So there!

Frankly, I was pretty okay with not blogging all football season long. Definitely had plenty going on to keep myself busy. And oh, YEAH...while I was away...we Alabama fans got the chance to serve up some more Hatorade to our buddies around the nation, mostly in SEC country....bringing home our 16th National Championship.

The same can't be said for my Seahawks, who fell a little short. It was a weird season for my boys. Get 'em next year. I just hope Peyton Manning can find a way to beat Carolina so we don't have to watch Scam Newton parade all over our lives for the next 6 months...gawd I hate that guy.

Well, to be honest...I COULDN'T blog for the longest time because someone hacked the boy's at GCP's website...and part of the fallout from that was that the blog server locked us all out of our own accounts. I kept meaning to spend however ridiculous hours it would most likely take, emailing their customer service people back and forth, but to be honest...I just never found the time to commit to what would surely have been a nightmare.

Well...that brings me to now. Here it is 4am...maybe 5am, I'm not sure because sometimes your computer changes as you move into a new time zone, and sometimes it doesn't. Me, the Squirrel, Carley and her BFF Abbey are sitting in a hotel in Lake City, Florida...where we pulled in for the night after several hours of driving and watching Disney movies. We are on our way to Disney World...Carley's first foray into the Magic Kingdom. Not sure who is more pumped up....her or her mother. Since I met Squirrel, I always knew she was a Mickey Mouse freak. Hell, she even has a little tattoo of the happy rat on her hip. Well that was my Christmas present to her...and we are basically going on an all-expenses, cover-all-the-bases expedition....four days that I'm sure will require a week of recovery time for me once we get back home!

Now that I know I can finally (apparently-unless this was a one-time fluke) log back into my blog and post...I will start getting in here and sharing some stuff...like some of my old sick and crazy stories and thoughts....of which I've quite a few just PILING UP the last 4 months!

Talk to you soon!

We are in the Midst of a Revolution

Got lots of shit on my mind to talk about today. Lots! And very little of it has to do with poker. If you want that, go read Jonathan Little's blog, where you can listen to him break down hand history for an entire cash session or tournament until your eyes bleed.

As for my poker...I have played about 4 cash sessions over at IP since I last posted. It's been a lot  of ups and downs. And the players have mostly been good guys who are nice to play with...mixed in with the occasional annoying player, and the mentally unstable once or twice, which was a real adventure. I knew as I was sitting there that I could write a very long blog post about each cash session, but somehow, as a couple days go by, they just don't seem that newsworthy.

My 'staking operation' which has taken on the look of a new occupation, continues with the WSOP-Baltimore event...which starts this week. Hoping my guy Mike Bratovich can keep up the good work. I'm also considering staking a player I won't name in the upcoming event at the Beau Rivage. As for me, I have always wanted to play 'The River' event up at Win Star...but never have. There is an above-average chance that I will venture up there and give that a shot. Then in September, is I can talk Squirrel into it, and get her to get some time off of work (read about MGM Beau Rivage's latest 'slick move' later in this post) I have a guy who plays my pools and also invests in the Minions who owns a bunch of condos down in West Palm that has offered us a free place to stay if we come down and play. So I'm trying to get Mike's wife and kids and my family to stay at a beach condo and play that Palm Beach WSOP event while the girls and kids play! I'm really rooting for that to happen.

The Beau Rivage. They (from what I read) have moved the poker room this week to accommodate the high limit area while they remodel, and were closed for a couple days. I guess the poker room is going to be over there by the Coast nightclub. Nice and loud (and smoky) for those who enjoy a quiet poker experience! A couple weeks ago, Squirrel came home exasperated. She goes on to tell that they introduced a new machine...a robot basically, that makes the cocktails in the service bar. They have removed the bartender completely, and now the waitress not only takes the orders...but then gets to go back there, program the robot, set up all the drinks with glassware and ice...then essentially make the drink with the assistance of Robo-Tender. This led to long wait times (and even more bitching than normal) for the customers waiting for their drinks.

So, it was supposed to be a 'trial' period to see how it went. Pffft...sure sure...they spent all that money on that machine to 'see how it went!' Well, this week...the other two service bars were equipped with those machines! Of course...all the service bartenders, some who have worked there for years...are now unemployed! Isn't that awesome!??? So...if you are gambling over there, and your drinks seem to be taking a little longer than usual? Keep this story in mind, and take it easy on your waitress. She is just as frustrated, if not more, than you are! Meanwhile...lets hope all those unfairly laid off bartenders find another job somewhere right away.

Is there a conspiracy at play with Caesar's Entertainment? Since quite a few people know of my plight with the Evil Empire...they seem to enjoy sharing their stories with me, either finding comfort in sharing it with someone in their shoes, or thinking I will be able to provide some kind of a solution to their issue. This is rather eerie, but I have had FOUR...yeah...four people in the last 7 months, tell me about them getting 86'd from Caesar's properties. And 3 of those 4 didn't even really know why. ALL FOUR of those people? Are 7-Star members. You know what that means? It's their highest tier of card holders...and to achieve that status you have to play and spend a lot in their casinos. In exchange, they receive a lot of benefits that make spending all that money worth it. Why would it benefit them to ban those people from their property? Well, when your company is currently mired in debt and several forms of bankruptcy with your various casinos, it would benefit a LOT, if you weren't having to give away tons of goodies to people who had earned it one way or the other. Right? And as we all know, casinos have this magical power of simply 86'ing you with little to no reason and you have almost zero recourse. Slimy? Oh yeah...super slimy. And I know there are 'two sides to every story' blah blah blah...but some of these stories I'm hearing are just ridiculous. I feel like something slimy is taking place in the Evil Empire. Just my opinion.

Meanwhile, speaking of top-tier card levels...you STILL can't wrangle a Red Bull from the waitresses at IP unless you have an Emerald level card or something like that. Rock Star only!!! Ridiculous. Can't even PAY for one. I will never understand how some of these Beverage Supervisors keep their jobs.

Can anyone remember the last time we had a hurricane on the Gulf Coast? I can't. And frankly...I'm ready for another one. I am a big fan of storms, and hurricanes are something I find to be very exciting. Watching them develop out in the Atlantic...it's just fun to me. So as I say this...we finally have something brewing out in the Atlantic...moving very slowly, and I'm gonna watch anxiously and hope we get something to get everyone a little excited next week!

Carley is growing up way too damn fast. She started dance class this week. We bought her a tutu a few weeks ago, and her dance shoes last week, and she's been putting them on constantly, excited to get started. And she did great, and had fun. Her best buddie, Pressley, from her daycare class...is also there. I had that proud feeling I guess you get when you see your kid doing something like dance, or piano, or little league, or whatever. I love being a daddy.

Which leads me to another topic. Pedophiles. How any man could ever bring oneself to have sex with a child is beyond me. In fact...just the mere thought of it makes my blood boil. So with today's news that Jared from Subway was discovered to have 3400+ videos of kiddy porn on his computer, and had been paying children to have sex with him while out of town...I just scratch my head and wonder, where does it all end? As I watched the news develop further on his case, I noticed he had a charity that was supposed to benefit children. Interesting. I believe that scumbag Jerry Sandusky also had a similar charity set up. So what...were they just setting up places where they could prey on kids?

Earlier this week, I was responding on a thread on Facebook that talked about how a certain cross-section on Muslims in the Middle East take their little boys, dress them up as girls, and sexually abuse them. Somewhere during the thread, someone (Arab, I believe) decided to toss in Protestant and Catholic priests and compare the two as equals. Kind of a reach, I thought, but still....sufficiently fucked up. A while back, it was the actor from 'Seventh Heaven' Stephen Collins being taken down by pedophilia charges. And don't let me forget that douchebag Josh Duggar...who was molesting his own fucking sisters. And in a rather amusing twist of fate, he was named today in the most recent computer hacking drama: the Ashley Madison kerfuffle! Yeah! He was a registered user and just got outed on there as well. So not just a child molester before he married his wife...but now a guy looking to cheat on his wife as well! Solid guy there, real straight shooter!!!

I just do NOT get it. I really don't. Is that only because I'm not wired that way that I can't understand it? How many people ARE wired this way? It freaks me out as I try to raise my beautiful little girl, and shield her from all the evil in the world. I'm hopeful that living in a place like we do will help...but man, I don't know...maybe we need to move to somewhere like Montana or Wyoming. Because what we have been dealing with lately, all the racial strife, has me equally concerned.

Doesn't it seem like anytime you log onto Facebook...lately especially, all you see are inflammatory posts that are related to bad cops, Black Lives Matter shenanigans, or why everything that has happened in the last 8 years that is bad is because of Barack Obama? This country is a mess. And I don't see anything getting any better. Is this a simple problem with leadership at the top levels? Or is it just tensions that are simmering to a breaking point? I don't know. I know living in the south, you see a lot more racial tension than living on the West Coast...or in the Pacific Northwest, where I grew up. Is the election of a new president next year going to help (or hurt!!!) matters any?

POLITICS

And this is where the post title comes from. We are in the midst, absolutely, of a political revolution. Fortunately not quite as severe as the Arab Spring of the Middle East a couple years ago which led to bloody coups. What we are undergoing is something that is incredibly intriguing, and a direct result of all the years of frustration of voters in our country from the collective shit storm of politicians and their modus operandi. The lobbyists, the special interest groups, the lying, the stealing, the corruption. People are fed up...the smart ones, the stupid ones, the informed ones, the ill-informed ones. It has led to something that is nothing more than fascinating. I'd love to be a college student right now sitting in on some of the lectures that the Political Science professors are giving around this nation's campuses.

Add to the frustration that Americans feel with their politicians the rampant PC society we have cultivated over the last ten years. I personally feel that social media is about 99.7% to blame for this. Why? Because, before social media...what you said was only going to hurt you if it was said on camera...and played on TV. Now? Your words and actions are slapped right there on your Twitter or Facebook for the entire world to see, then scrutinize! A person misspeaks now and there is no, "oops, I didn't really mean that." Now its out there...and you are destroyed in a nano-second!  And with the advent of social media, the manifestation of political correctness has been a bi-product. It has led to an almost paranoia in people, where they will balk at saying something due to how it will be perceived by others. And when we are talking about politicians? It is magnified immensely, because not only do they have to avoid making that one, single fatal sound bite, but they have  to consider all the people they have in their back pockets! Where one statement about one thing, might offend one of those groups, even while appeasing the other. What can they possibly say that is 100% safe? When people ask the question: "Why can't this guy just answer the fucking question?" Well...that's WHY! Because they have too many people to answer to, and their responses are held to such scrutiny that they are forced to answer questions as vaguely and ambiguously as possible. You follow me?

Where am I going with this, you ask? I'm going here:

DONALD TRUMP!

The Donald has been a part of our nation's culture for 3 decades now. He has been a lot of things, media mogul, blowhard, casino boss, bankrupt and disgraced, TV reality show sensation, husband of multiple gorgeous women...there are very few people on the planet that don't know the name Donald Trump. There have been teasings by him in past election years, 'threatening' to run for president. It was typically laughed off.

But this time is different. He's ALL IN! (there you go, a poker term for you!) He's turned in his tax records. He has the website. He's selling t-shirts and those hideous hats. Every sound bite that the TV pundits thought would ruin him, have only made his approval rating climb higher. He was ambushed by America's media sweetheart, Megyn Kelly...and she came out looking like the villian. All the things that the political experts think are going to torpedo his campaign, are only making him stronger. This is incredible.

Don't take this as me 'supporting' Donald Trump. I am not a big Trump guy. I think he is  pompous, egotistical, and lacks the ability to effectively negotiate with world leaders because of his massive ego. I also think he's too bombastic to hold the office, an office where he is the holder of the 'nuclear football' which gives me a little uneasiness. However...I am extremely excited by what he is doing to the political environment. He is his OWN MAN...with no one in his back pockets. No one to  answer to. No one to worry about cutting their donations. Political correctness? He has none. And what he is doing is exciting the silent majority in this country. The people who are sick and tired of having to worry about offending any and everyone with every word that comes out of their mouth. He has rallied a large base of people who are sick of politicians in their current form, and of talking heads on TV who profess to know who should be the candidate, and gear their coverage to steer us sheep into the voting lanes.

What Trump is doing to the entire political process is starting a revolution in our entire political system. Even now, already...you can see some of the candidates taking cues from The Donald, being a little more 'risky' with their comments. Can Trump win? The election is still so far away from now...will one of his 'doozies' eventually sink him? Or just keep making him stronger?

Then you throw in Hilliary Clinton. It was thought to be a foregone conclusion that she was the Democratic-nominee in waiting. And even before all this email shit started, I was appalled by her as a presidential candidate. I've always thought she was a liar...and if you can't sit and watch her (especially as fellow poker players who are supposed to be able to spot tells!) recent Q&A with some media members over her knowledge of transmitting classified documents and not come away KNOWING she is full of shit...then I am seriously losing my faith in all humanity. Her and Bill are two of the dirtiest humans to ever splash around in the political swimming pool in our nation's history. The trail of scandal, of lies, and of dead people who either threatened them or posed a risk to their political aspirations, is long...verrrrry long, and well-documented. I have been shaking like a leaf at the thoughts of this demon winning the White House...but a full year from election time...it finally...FINALLY appears that the American public, as well as the media, is discovering just how awful and unequipped to be president this woman is.

The other thing that Donald Trump has done, is get people as interested in the voting process as they ever have been, at least in my lifetime. When 24 million viewers tune in to see the FIRST presidential debate of the year...where 2.5m was the typical audience for such an event...you KNOW that Americans are standing up and taking notice. I've spent a little too much time on Facebook debating with or just observing the views that people have on the current candidates...and it is fascinating. To say the least. I don't have a clue who the eventual candidate will be, and I certainly wouldn't want to bet on it...so for those of you who keep challenging me to a wager, STOP IT...I'm not that stupid.  Nor am I close to being committed to any candidate on either side.

This brings up another angle. The dark, mysterious puppet masters who live behind  the scenes...kind of the Wizard of Oz's of the political system. We know a few of the members of this 'political mafia,' the infamous Koch Brothers and George Soros among the most easily recognized. Add to that the billionaires who are also members of that notoriously mysterious group called the Illuminati, who some argue are the real operators of our country, and our banking system especially.

There are murmurings that they won't allow Donald Trump to become the eventual candidate for the GOP. Why? You can draw your own conclusions...but to anyone with half a brain, we realize that for decades now, the presidents who are elected to the top office have been helped, even steered...to that position by extremely powerful people. Once in that position, they have no choice but to answer to these people on a lot of things. A guy like Trump in the White House would most likely pose a huge threat to these people...as they would lose all of their influence...since The Donald answers to nobody but himself. Interesting concept, don't you think?

What do you think of the proposed 'deal' that our Commander-in-Chief and his lap dog John Kerry have made with the people in the Middle East who make a habit of chanting 'Death To America' and who's Premier Leader tells his followers "its one thing to say Death to America, and another to act on your words?" This might be the biggest joke I've ever seen about to be perpetuated on the American public in the history of our nation. I tried really hard...I really did, to see the possible wisdom in this deal when it was first hatched. I listened to Barack's speech in support of it, and tried really hard to find the positive in it. But then I dug...deep, and did some research, and listened to the opponents of the deal...loud and clear and without bias...and it just became more alarming, the more I heard.

Mere days after the pact was announced (but not ratified-pending approval by our Congress) their military strongman, who was on a heavily enforced 'no-fly' list and branded a terrorist, just hopped on a plane and skipped off to Russian to negotiate an arms deal with Putin! Huh? WTF???? It barely made a ripple in the US...people were/are too busy wondering what Brucelyn Jenner is wearing to lunch, or which Kardashian is taking a selfie at a fashion show to notice. Are we really THAT fucking tuned out to what is going on right under our noses? Then it got more ludicrous this week...as the UN nuclear inspection people announced that the Iranians...yes, the FUCKING Iranians...would be responsible for conducting their OWN inspections of their most scrutinized nuclear site at Parchin! That isn't even 'questionable' that is a fucking joke of the highest magnitude! And what does Barack...who I'm becoming more and more convinced is a wolf in sheep's clothing who has done nothing but weaken us from the inside out (think Manchurian Candidate!) while he's been in office. It just defies logic, some of the stupid shit he has been responsible for. If this deal isn't voted down by Congress...I might...I don't know, now that I think of it...nothing with this administration would surprise me anymore. And even if it gets voted down...that jackass will likely just veto their decision.

In closing...I'd like to recognize Jimmy Carter for being a MAN! Sure...he wasn't a very good president, in fact, some have called him one of our worst. But since he has been out of office, that guy has spent his whole life doing great things for humanity. He could have simply slipped off into the sunset like some have done...but he didn't. He's been active in so many avenues of society. He's given so much of himself to advance our world. To find out he has cancer...and then find out it's spread to his brain, at 90 years old, you have to think his days are numbered. But he sits there talking about his diagnosis with a cheerful smile on his face, and an upbeat tone in his voice, speaking of all the great people who have called him to wish him well. That is how you are SUPPOSED to be when death is on your doorstep! Knowing that you have given all you have to give to your fellow man while on this Earth, and being prepared for the next life. It's similar to how Chad Brown...my good friend who passed last year...acted before he died. Courageous as hell! Zero fear! No regrets! It made it hard for me to cry when he died...because he made me believe that he was okay with it. I hope Jimmy Carter miraculously recovers from this cancer that has affected him...but if not, I'll be the first to salute him in death.

My Astute and Sometimes Entertaining Observations

Lately, I have been spending an inordinate amount of time with Carley at the local water park....oddly named Gulf Islands Water Park. Odd, in that it is nowhere close to an island, in fact..it's a good 5 miles away from the Gulf of Mexico itself.

My kid loves the water park. And frankly, so do I. Mainly because in Biloxi, Mississippi, in the dead of summer...there are very few places where I can place myself where I feel comfortable, aside from indoors with the A/C cranking. The water park is one of those places. And seeing Carley smile is my crack. So when she wakes up...and decides she doesn't feel like going to school and hits me with "Water park, Daddy!??" It almost always results in a trip to the water park.

I have done some studying this month. Of people. And kids. I've made some conclusions based on what I've observed. First...and this kind of echoes a post that I just read from Nolan Dalla after his recent nightmare visit to the DMV out in Vegas...the appearance of tattoos on grown adults is at an all time high. Now...if you are some pervert going to the water park by yourself, sans child, this could be a very good thing for you...as a tattoo signals to you the fact that your subject is 18+ and you will likely evade charges of statutory rape. Yippee for you! But for the rest of us...it's just something for us to use to judge the worthiness of certain parents.

Now...I am not one to quickly assess someone based on their choice of body art. However...some make it awfully hard NOT to judge them. Occasionally, you will see some pretty attractive tattoos, ones that were clearly well planned out, and involved a lot of money to complete. Some carry what is a noticeable message, or tribute to someone. I can dig that. While tattoos aren't for me, and you won't find a single one on my body, I don't bemoan or belittle those who have happened upon what they deem a sound reason for adding the ink to the body God gave them. Some 'types' of people have long traditions of adding ink art to their bodies, members of the military, biker gangs, strippers, musicians, and of course...those serving time behind bars. But in this current decade, we have seen a rapid expansion of body art.

When I take a trip to Vegas, the percentage of body art is always higher at some hotels than others. Staying at a place like Venetian or the Wynn...you tend to see a lot less than if you stay at say...the old Riviera, or Golden Nugget, even Treasure Island. Basically, the hotels that charge more, attract less of the tattoo crowd, and the ones who charge less...you find more. Does this signal that 'poorer people' are more attracted to tattoos than 'richer people?' Make your own conclusions. Personally, I see a difference in 'white mamas' and 'minority mamas' while at the water park. The white mamas seem to have less, and the ones they have appear to be of a higher quality, and located in more common places, like the 'tramp stamp' area of the lower back, or the belly area, or back of the neck....with the increasingly more-frequent appearance in the arm and shoulder region. Once you start getting into your white-trashier girls...they start showing up on the thigh...which I deem to be about the un-sexiest place for a tattoo as it gets, aside from smack dab on their face.(or across their breast...which I don't care if it's Kate Upton, it's hideous)

When you turn to the 'minority mamas' it gets a little dicier. There seems to be no place on the body that is off guard. Where some of your nastier 'white mamas' who are likely strippers or the girl friends of meth dealers might also go for this look, it tends to be more of the minority mamas who are fond of tatting up their chest area.( I know, a revisit) I can't remember EVER seeing a gal, black or white...that can pull this off and make it look good. It simply always looks fucking repulsive. Minority mamas also seem not to care about where they place ink....all over the legs, all over the torso, anywhere on their arms...anything goes. And there is seemingly no limit to the amount of ink, either. And instead of pictures, you see a lot of just words...either names of people near and dear to them (or at least at one time) or phrases that mean something to them. Across the top of their breast...up and down the side of their torso, or leg...the shit is everywhere.

The best of course, are the people with tattoos you can tell came while in prison. Crude in appearance, and made from something other than standard ink...those are painful to look at. You wonder how they feel, I mean REALLY feel, about how they look. Do they delusionally (not a word I don't think but I'm using it anyway) walk around thinking those are some kind of badge of honor? I fear they do. Not fear, as in I am afraid of them...but fear as in, it scares me to think there are people who are stupid enough to think they look good.

Okay, enough about tattoos. But yeah, they freak me out...and I'm hoping this is the generation that thought to bring them back and try to make them popular, and that by the time Carley is 18 and older, it will have skipped a generation, HER generation, and I won't see my daughter running around with horrible tattoos all over her little body. Pray, pray pray!!!!

This leads me to kids...and where I think they are headed in life. Based on what I simply sit and observe. You wouldn't think it would be that easy to figure this out, so early in their lives...but I think it is, actually. I watch my daughter...how polite she is, how she waits patiently in line. How she waits until the bottom of the kiddy slide is clear, before she goes down it...avoiding wiping out some unsuspecting kid at the bottom...and risking injury to that other child and maybe herself. Once at the bottom, she quickly gets up and out of the way of the next kid. She plays with other kids. Bottom line...my wife and I have done a great job so far raising a good kid who is kind and considerate and who other kids like. That makes me SO incredibly proud...and emboldens me to continue giving 100% to make sure I raise a good human being and citizen of this planet.

So I sit and watch these other kids...and to be fair, most of them are pretty similar to Carley, and you see their parents there...and they seem (also) like good people and good parents, and we will usually have some kind of friendly conversation. But then...you have...THOSE kids. The ones who like to cut the line. The ones who like to shove the kids when they feel they are taking too long to go when it's their turn. The ones who think its okay to walk/run back UP the slide, instead of going around like everyone else. That kid who sits at the bottom of the slide...refusing to move. They are everywhere. I call them 'the little shit heads.' Not to their face of course...to myself, and to other 'good' parents occasionally. We will sit and watch them operate...shaking our heads...and wondering where in the hell their parents are?

So the longer I sit and watch these little shit heads, the more I start to rationalize in my head that I can see this kids future. You sometimes wonder, where do kids go wrong? Where do they go from being cute, loveable, innocent children, to being little assholes who are about to blossom into full-fledged losers in life...heading for a career of uncompleted education, of jobs he or she gets fired from, and of stints spent in and out of prison. It's easy to see. And in 99% of  the cases, it starts with the parenting. Carley goes to a pretty good daycare...most of the kids are really great kids and have nice parents. But there are those handful that DON'T. They are little assholes...and in the brief encounters I've had with their parents, it's obvious that their parents are big assholes. Big assholes, raising little assholes....it's the problem with this country.

So...memo to you parents? Don't be a big asshole raising a little asshole, please! Teach them manners! Hold them to it! Be involved enough in their lives to know what is going on with them. You are the absolute KEY to their future! Embrace that! Moving on....

My wife just celebrated another birthday...and yes, she shares her birthday with our President...Mr. Obama. Don't hold that against her. I gave her a beautiful diamond bracelet for her birthday...which I was pretty proud of. But then Carley decided to upstage me...and gave her mother a gift which I was never going to be able to top. Thanks Carley!

Cable news networks are driving me more and more insane. Is there back-to-back talking heads that are any more annoying than Gretchen Carlson followed by Shephard Smith? Then over on CNN you get that one-two punch to the face from the idiotic tandem of  Carol Costello and Ashleigh Banfield. Yeah yeah, I know what you're saying...how do I leave Nancy Grace off my list? Trust me, I don't...but I don't watch news during her time slot...by then I've gone into non-tv-watching mode. But yeah...Nancy Grace is the Queen of All Bitches  in the cable news/entertainment industry. Worse...you get the Facebook discussions that start out as healthy debates and end up in heated conflicts with the two very polarized groups...the FOX-hating liberals who are always quick to accuse the other side of being lemmings being led down the path of that which Fox wants them all to think. It gets to the point where you can't even deal with it anymore.

Is anyone else excited for this first GOP debate on Friday night? (Yes I wrote this a few days ago) I don't think there has EVER been a presidential debate that has been so wildly anticipated as this one. Donald Trump has turned this election into a wild and crazy affair...and I think everyone is beyond curious to see what transpires in this first debate. I know I can't wait !(and for the most part..it delivered, and was the most-watched debate in political history. Thanks Donald!)

Almost as much as I couldn't wait for the latest Ronda Rousey fight. That bitch from Brazil went to great extremes to make herself incredibly unlikeable. Mission accomplished. And as a big Rousey fan...I loved the way she conducted herself leading up to the fight. I mosied on over to Buffalo Wild Wings, refusing to pay $60 for what I assumed would be a fight that lasted less than five minutes. It did. It lasted 34 seconds. I was hoping that Ronda would have tried to stretch out the fight...and systematically destroy this skank...but alas, she didn't. But unlike most of her fights, that seem to end in a painful armbar for he loser, she knocked this bitch out with a punch to the earhole. Night night Betch...you bitch! Welcome back to obscurity!

Okay...it's now Sunday...and its like a steam bath outside. It's a good thing the cost of living in Biloxi is SO good, because if it wasn't for that...I'd think I was in hell! Have a nice day.

August Starts with a BANG!!!

When I last wrote, I was about to start the $5k Main Event at Venetian, which, given my run of bad luck in July, I decided to sell off to investors. It almost worked out for them. I had a pretty smooth Day One...bagging up an above average stack of 55k, which was one more than my buddy David Nicholson, who ended with 54k. Earlier in the day...Dave texted me, asking me if I wanted to buy 10% of his action. I was concerned about when he would actually arrive to participate, since it was level 2 and he was still in bed. Finally I relented, knowing him to be a good gamble. So I told him to come to my table and I'd give him enough for 5%. He never showed. I saw him on break...him telling me he already sold his last 10%. Great. Maybe I'll be glad. Nope. I wasn't. He finished 5th for $135,000. More July misery. (on a side note, we eventually had a mini-sweat with each other...and I ended up getting $500 from his win...which he quickly wired me the next day...so not a total loss!)

Myself, I got knocked out fairly early in Day Two. I played the first two levels incredibly tentatively...folding a few hands I never should have folded, not re-raising a guy when I should have with AK....then making a call that could have gone either way...a solid player either putting pressure on me to fold because he knew I was the kind of player who COULD fold AK on a flop of K-3-6...or because he actually had a set like the little bird on my shoulder was telling me he had. I'd been folding too much...and was getting too low, and had too much in the pot. I had to hope that he was bluffing me...or had a king with a worse kicker. None of that was right....the little birdie was right. Set of sixes. I was out.

I then played the last event...a $400 bounty tourney. 233 players started...and when we got close to the money I was sitting at 70k, well above the average stack, and hoping for a strong finish to wrap up my trip. That didn't happen either. I  lost a couple rough hands...then got it all in with 77 vs AQ and was clean til the river...when he hit a queen...busting me 5 from the money. My Vegas trip was over.  I flew home the next day...and on my connecting flight in Atlanta, I decided to do something to try and make me feel better about myself, and gave up my 1st class seat to a young man in military uniform. It did make me feel better. And what a wonderful young man he was...waiting at the gate until I boarded (last because I always wait to get off) to shake my hand and thank me. I really love and respect our military. The flight attendant who I asked via a written note to find me a military person to give my seat to...came back and offered me free drinks in coach, and thanked me...telling me 'almost nobody does that anymore...and it made me so happy to see you do it.' Well...I did it to make myself feel better about myself...so I guess you could actually call me selfish!

When I got home...and walked out to the curb...Squirrel was there waiting for me...and there was Carley...with her window rolled down, and her eyes had this incredible sparkle in them...a smile beaming on her face. I raced over and let her wrap her arms around my head...and she didn't want to to let me go. It made my eyes water. I was so happy to be home. I rode home in the back seat with her...she never stopped staring at me with that big smile on her face. I held her hand the whole way home. It was a fantastic home coming. Since I've been home...I've taken her to the water park about 4 times. We have had all kinds of quality time together. She is at this great age (3+) where almost everything she does is either cute or funny. She is talking so much...but in that broken language where you have to try really hard to interpret what she's saying.

So after being home about 5 days...I get the email from the guy I've been staking most of this year. I  had already told Mike (Bratovich) that I would go ahead and stake him for the events sandwiched around the WSOP National Championship Freeroll that he qualified for, and that I had 50% of. But after my brutal trip to Vegas...I was kind of lamenting having to ship off another $4k for backing. But my word is my word...so I transferred him the  money for  that trip. He started off with a min cash in the first event....not a bad way to start out.

But then he proceeded to brick everything leading up to the Freeroll...which was fine, no big deal. We were both SO excited for the freeroll...and he even took the day off before the event, to spend with his wife and kids and clear his mind of anything negative. I like that strategy a lot! One thing about Mike...he makes the decision to back him really easy...as he constantly provides updates, sends me a picture of his registration every time...and plays pretty similar to the way I do. And on top of it...he's just a really nice kid, with a great attitude.

The Freeroll...that was eventually won by long time circuit player Loni Harwood...was not what we both hoped it would be. He ended up busting out of it about the same place I did when I played it in 2010...middle of the pack. And like my experience, he just couldn't ever seem to catch a break...or get that critical double up when he needed it. It was a bummer, and I'm sure he was just as disappointed (probably more) than I was.

So we had a few more chances to come out of the trip with a profit. Brick....brick....and yet another brick. Damn. We were down to one more event...the $1125. What happened? Well...he bagged 125k on Day One...which put him in the top 5 in chip counts. And when he came back the next day...he had, basically...a cake walk. The only hiccup I think was when he had a big stack and lost AA vs KK to knock him down to 13 BB's. But he quickly recovered...and by the time they were at the Final Table, he had 20% of the chips in play. It was a pretty fast final table...they got down to 3 pretty quickly. Then, when he knocked out 2013 Main Event champion Ryan Reiss...he was heads up for the win...which was good for 81k! Since there were no online updates available, I was sitting at my computer, playing online on Bovada (I would end up with a 2nd in a 45pp sit n go, and two min cashes in $20 tourneys- a smashing success for me on that god forsaken site!) and waiting for updates from him.

They played heads up for about an hour...the structure got steeper...and Mikes lead had eroded away some. He consulted me on chop options...which I also appreciated. When we came up with something we both felt good about, he hatched out a deal with the other guy...with Mike taking 70k and the other guy taking 61k. So, with me having 60% of Mike's action, it translated to a $42,000 night for me! And no...I don't charge Mike makeup on spent buy ins...so I didn't charge for the $2000+ buy ins that he bricked. Some of you out there probably think I'm stupid for that...that's okay. I've been called stupid a lot. It's nothing new, I'm used to it!

As he always has done...Mike was incredibly humble in victory...and went out of his way to thank me for being behind him in his efforts. Again, like I said...it makes a guy really enjoy staking a player when they act like this guy acts. And furthermore...when he races to the bank the next day to  deposit my share...instead of stretching it out for days or weeks like some players in the poker community have been notorious for, that also makes it really easy to stake him! It was nice logging on to my computer yesterday and seeing that little bump to my checking account!

Speaking of payouts...Wild Bill also quickly sent me the check for the investors shares when he returned from Vegas...and I had every single investor paid out within five days. Over 80 of them!!! Yeah...that took some time! Needless to say, all this investing...all of this money entering and  then leaving my account? I am having to make some new alterations to how my accountant does my taxes, so as not to sound off any alarms with the IRS. Fortunately I keep great records of everything! Then on top of it...you have my pools...which I just activated today, incidentally....where I will have $100k+ of other people's money sitting in my checking account all football season from all my various pools and fantasy leagues...until it comes time to pay all the winners. I can only imagine the perplexed look that a future IRS agent might have on their face when looking at the banking history on my accounts!!!

As for me? I am contemplating taking a quick trip down to South Florida next week and playing the $5k Main Event at the Hollywood Hard Rock Poker Open...that has a $5m guarantee. It is one of my favorite tournaments because its got a great structure, is in a great tournament room that is incredibly roomy, and attracts great players...which I always feel I fare better against than these wild, maniacal players that seem like they have a money tree growing in their back yard. Also...they changed it this year...so you are limited  to ONE entry...which means you don't have deep-pocketed players gambling on crazy draws knowing they can go rebuy if they miss. Really makes every play a lot more critical, and I like that too.  As for Mike,  he is really being smart. He is resisting the temptation to play in these bigger tourneys to stick to his plan/strategy of getting the most bang for his buck....a contribution of $3500-$4000 covers him for an entire circuit event...and also gives him a chance to qualify for the National Championship again...which he is very motivated to do. I love it. Smart kid.

I have so many random things I want to write about. But I don't want this post to be too  long...so I guess I will save it all for my next post. I just kind of wanted to share Mike's (and my!) great news from the felt, how I went out in Vegas (for anyone who cared) and what I have on my possible plate this month. Since I am leasing my new Tahoe...and the miles are already a little high...I won't drive down to South Florida if I go...choosing instead to fly, rent a car and find somewhere affordable to sleep. If I do decide to go...I will be sure to post about it! As for selling a package for it? Not sure. But probably will buy in and play for 100%, especially given the stroke of good luck from Mike this week!
